Auberge la Boerne is a lovely small auberge that should be your first choice for accommodation in Tré le Champ. Located just off the trail, this is certainly the most convenient option in the area, as other accommodations will require a further walk from the main trail.
You’ll find 31 beds located at Auberge la Boerne, most of which are located in small dormitory rooms. There are also two private rooms available, although neither has en-suite facilities.
Camping was permitted outside the auberge up until 2024 when it was deemed to impactful on the surrounding community. As such, campers will need to look elsewhere for a place to pitch.
Bookings are made on the Au Tour du Mont Blanc website and typically open in early or mid-October for the upcoming hiking season. The Auberge typically stays open through the end of September, so is a good option for late-season hikers as well.
Reservations are very hard to come by here given there are only 31 beds available, so consider yourself lucky if you’re able to secure a place.

Auberge la Boerne Experience

By the time we arrived at Auberge La Boerne, we felt like seasoned travelers with many friends along the way. Several other groups of friends from earlier refuges were staying there as well, and upon arrival through the flower lined road, we all enjoyed some beers on the open-air patio. I easily found a comfortable spot in the nearby grass to work on some art next to the refuge’s campground. The surrounding area was calm and quiet and provided a nice opportunity to decompress after the long day.
Our private room was on the first floor and included two single beds. Unfortunately there was no window, so we kept the air flow by keeping the main door open for the majority of our stay. It was quiet at night, so this worked out well. Most of the sleeping quarters were upstairs with large rooms and multiple bunk beds. Upstairs, there was a small outdoor deck used by everyone to hang wet laundry and towels out to dry.
The showers and toilets were just down the hall on the main floor. If possible, try to shower earlier in the evening and use the toilets before busy hours. With the campsite adjacent to the refuge, campers can also use the showers and toilets. As a result, the bathroom line was busy at times. There is a bathroom down the road, if necessary.
The highlight of our stay at Auberge La Boerne was definitely dinner time. Tables were assigned outside on the patio and dinner was served to our group. We sat with other English speakers and a lot of younger travelers. This table arrangement also included some campers, which was a welcome change with new faces. While I was tired after dinner and went to prepare for bed, my dad was enjoying the conversation with the other travelers so much that he stayed at the table for an additional hour to chat with them.
The staff worked hard to help serve the hikers food and beverages. Early the next morning we took advantage of the large watering trough with cold delicious water to fill up the camelbacks before heading out. While I continued onto Lac Blanc, my dad, who wanted a rest day, was able to get an easy and inexpensive bus to Chamonix.
