Auberge du Mont Blanc is one of essentially four options for accommodation in the Trient region. Located at the end of the village of Trient, the Auberge has tremendous views of the famed pink church as well as the Trient Glacier.
Hikers reach Auberge du Mont Blanc via a short 40 minute downhill walk from the Col de la Forclaz for anti-clockwise hikers or a steep descent from the Col de Balme for clockwise TMB hikers. Regardless, Trient is a charming village that makes for a lovely place to spend the night.
The Auberge is large, with 120 total beds and options for dormitory accommmodation as well as both single and double private rooms. Despite this, Auberge du Mont Blanc sells out early in the season given there is limited accommodation in the Trient Valley. As such, this should be one of the first places you look to book when planning your TMB trek.
Bookings are made on the Au Tour du Mont Blanc website and typically open in early-October for the upcoming hiking season. The Auberge typically stays open through the end of September, so is a good option for late-season hikers as well.

Auberge du Mont Blanc Experience

After a beautiful day of hiking, Auberge du Mont Blanc serves as a welcome stay after the final descent into Trient. The refuge sits at the far end of the small town and is easy to get to by foot. The main floor of the refuge features two large dining rooms on each side and a bar. Just outside of the refuge is an open patio with a fantastic view of the Église Rose, or pink church. The patio has plenty of tables and chairs for guests to sit out and relax, or socialize if they choose. I brought my watercolor paints on the TMB and had time to paint out on the patio of Auberge du Mont Blanc after rinsing out some clothes and leaving them to dry on the lines set up out front.
Our private room was light and airy and included two comfortable single beds. The large and private window provided fresh air throughout the afternoon and evening, which was welcome after a long day of hiking. The floor had two different bathrooms, one with a toilet and one for showering, and occasional short lines that moved quickly. There was also a bathroom on the main floor if the upstairs bathrooms were occupied.
For dinner we were placed at a group table with other English speaking guests, however we also had the opportunity to practice our French with a nice couple from Paris who sat with us. Because many of the people were on the same TMB route as us, we knew a large portion of the guests, while getting to know additional travelers on alternate routes or traveling in the opposite direction. We were provided with comforting food options, including fondue or curry.
The next morning breakfast was offered in the main dining room and provided some additional time for socializing. I sat with two men who were not traveling on the TMB, but instead climbing in the surrounding area. After breakfast, we were ready to continue our hike and took our pique-nique lunches to go. It was easy to locate the trail to continue our trek, which was just down the road, and we were soon on the many switchbacks leading up to a wonderful stop for an espresso before continuing on our journey.
